FreePack: and the winners are ...

The VS Pack exibition ended last week and we attend the ceremony of the contest "FreePack Spirit," we talked about in the previous article.

This year the first prize was the project "Atom, Rum Spirit" of five students in master 2 « design and marketing of packaging products of the European Centre for the Child” (CEPE) Angoulême. The prototype of this team features two bottles of rum (25 cl), one amber and one white. The principle is to pour the rum and add a fruit-flavored water-soluble capsule.

The third prize was awarded to the project "Fresh'n Go" of the professional degree “adaptation of packaging and industrial design” of Evreux. The concept is to put a block of ice on a bottle of vodka in order to cool quickly, which is surrounded by a small belt to keep them together.

The three formations represented by the award-winning approach the packaging in a different way (marketing, engineering, design). It is through this kind of competition that we can see the rich packaging players, whatever their specialty.
What is your best project for you?

“FreePack” contest project

As part of the “VS Pack” exhibition in Cognac, the competition "FreePack Spirit" took place. There were 59 projects, 113 candidates out of 13 formations represented. The topic was "free wines and spirits."

One of them caught my attention. This is the "Absinthe Fountain" by Marion BOULANGER and Pauline LOUGE, the engineering school of packaging CNAM (Angoulême). The concept is to prepare a traditional glass of absinthe.

The fountain is composed of two parts: one with water to fill glasses and the other with spoons and absinthe doses .
You must put a dose in the glass then put sugar on an absinthe spoon suspended on the glass. The fountain works with the same system that wine container (BIB for "packers"). Taps fill glasses drop by drop, which can dissolve the sugar into the absinthe dose. You get your mix, (drink with moderation).

I found this project is very timely since the absinthe, banned in France in 1915 for poisoning, again became legal in 2010. It is also very original because it highlights an alcohol somewhat forgotten, which recently returned to fashion. Too much projects on Cognac (Brandy) and vodka but few have chosen absinthe which also shows a great risk-taking.

I really think this project could have a chance to be famous when a manufacturer was interested. Distributors of absinthe could for example be used like a promotional item, a good way to attract attention and to taste the product.
